Quran Extension ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Quran Extension Chrome browser extension.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account information — When you sign in with your Quran Foundation account, we receive your user ID, email address, and display name via OAuth 2.0.
- Reading activity — Your daily reading streaks, page goals, and bookmark data are synced to Quran Foundation servers when you are signed in.
- Local storage — Bookmarks and preferences are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to sync.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To display your reading streak and daily goal progress.
- To sync your bookmarks across devices when you are signed in.
- To show community reflections on Quranic verses (sourced from Quran Reflect).
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
3. Third-Party Services
This extension communicates with the following third-party services:
- Quran Foundation APIs (apis.quran.foundation) — for Quran content, audio, translations, and user data.
- Quran Foundation OAuth server (oauth2.quran.foundation) — for authentication.
- Quran Reflect — for community reflections on verses.
- QuranicAudio / QuranCDN — for audio recitation files.
Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.
4. Data Retention
Local data (bookmarks, preferences) is retained until you uninstall the extension or clear your browser data. Account-linked data (streaks, cloud bookmarks) is managed by Quran Foundation and subject to their data retention policies.
5. Security
We use OAuth 2.0 PKCE for authentication — your password is never shared with or stored by this extension. Authentication tokens are stored in Chrome's encrypted local storage.
6. Children's Privacy
This extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page.
